Common Name: “Disco”

For those students who would like to dip their toe in the world of scuba diving to experience the sensation of breathing underwater, we offer a chance to sample the underwater world for a few hours in a controlled environment.

Perhaps you're not sure about your comfort level in the water. Maybe you've had a bad experience with another organization and want to see what our instructors are like. It could be that you just want to see if scuba diving might be something you want to pursue. If so, then the Discover Scuba Diving program is exactly what you're looking for.

Only a few short hours are needed to take part in a Discover Scuba Diving class, so sign up today and get introduced to the best sport in the world, by the largest scuba school in the world!

Who can participate…

Anyone 10 years of age or older in good health is qualified to begin Open Water training. You will be required to verify your health by signing the standard medical statement before class begins. We invite you to review the medical statement here.

What is the class like…

The class starts with a quick briefing on the basics of diving and equipment. We take you through each step of what you'll do underwater, and practice with you on dry land each technique that you'll need to do to be able to complete your dive safely. After passing a quick quiz, we hop into the pool, get geared up, and help you to experience your first breaths underwater safely and easily.

Where will you learn…

We teach the Discover Scuba Diving class at either the Hubert Humphrey Pool or at the Cleveland High School Pool.

When is the class offered…

The Discover Scuba Diving class is offered every weekend with the exception of major holidays.

How much does it cost…

The Discovery Scuba Diving class is $99 and includes:

  • Instructor time
  • Academic materials
  • All rental gear

If you choose to continue into the Open Water Diver Certification class, we will be happy to discount the cost of that class $50 for graduates of our Discover Scuba Diving program.

What is this “Open Water Upgrade” you keep mentioning?

People aren’t born hitting home runs and we’re not born hovering motionless inches above reefs 60 feet underwater for an hour (with the possible exception of Jacques Cousteau). We feel it is important that we not just certify safe divers, but we want to work hard to make sure that you are a GOOD diver too, and the way that happens is through practice, practice, practice.

A good diver is known not by how many dives they have, or the cost and shininess of their equipment. A good diver is known by the quality of their buoyancy control. To help really get you up to speed fast in your new sport, we offer a combined package of the Peak Performance Buoyancy class and the single most popular continuing education class, Enriched Air Nitrox to our Open Water students for an additional $299. These two classes together, focus entirely on the quality of your diving, and extending your time under water. The best part is that we can structure your training so that you can accomplish all of it, Open Water, Peak and Nitrox, right in the two weekend time schedule of your Open Water class with only a minimal amount of extra work! If you upgrade your open water class with Peak and Nitrox, you won’t incur any extra travel or equipment rental costs that you would if you took those classes later, and if you choose to use Nitrox that weekend, we can arrange to have Nitrox tanks ready for you at a small cost.

Your Open Water Upgrade can be added to your shopping cart at the time of purchase!
