"I love the kelp forests of the Channel Islands! There is no better way to spend the day then floating weightlessly through the water. Diving can be a transformational experience. Come play!"

Shelley FoxShelley ”Mermaid” Fox began her dive career right here in Southern California in the Spring of 2005. Born and raised in the PCH family, she epitomizes all we hold dear. Love of the water and all the creatures in it. She loves to dance with dolphins, and as her nick name suggests, she dives when her schedule and life allow. Her favorite dive sites in Southern California are Ship Rock and Sea Fan Grotto on Catalina Island.

Amy DesuzaLove for the water and all the creatures in it, was a gift given to me as a baby. I was learning to swim at the same time I was learning to walk. In 2004, I was working on my degrees in Animal Training and Wildlife Education and open water scuba certification was a requirement to work with marine mammals, so, I signed up with 20 of my fellow classmates. Off to Catalina we went. From the first splash I was hooked! Since then, I've had the chance to travel to places like Roatan, Hawaii, and Cozumel and it has been a lot of fun! As an instructor I want to be able to share these experiences with as many people as possible.

71% of the earth is covered with oceans. To explore it with amazing people would be an awfully big adventure. Are you in?

"Honest to goodness it's the absolute ultimate!"- Gidget

Daniel HienzschDan was certified as an open water diver in 1998 in Monterey. Now he’s an instructor with dives logged everywhere from Alexandria, Egypt to Kona, Hawaii but the kelp forests of the Channel Islands are home.

Dan loves sharing the new experience of breathing underwater with open water students and helping broaden the skills of existing divers. From your first breath in the pool to your first breath under the ocean, your experience with Dan and the PCH Scuba Team will be one to treasure!

Ryan WinthropRyan earned the name “Tarzan” when at the age of 14 he was blazing a trail thru the rain forest to save some endangered species and fought a jaguar with his bare hands, and won. Lucky for us he learned how to dive and has focused his badass-ness on being an ambassador for the ocean. Ryan enjoys teaching people to dive so they can see the underwater world that he loves so much and has taken an oath to protect. He has been described as a blend of: Jaques Cousteau, Chuck Norris, Tom Selleck, Gandhi and a tornado. If you see a guy at the Dive Park rocking a speedo while diving that his him warming the pacific with his natural heat so more people will get in the water to enjoy the local waters.

Stu McLellanStu began diving to get the most out of a vacation to Hawaii in 2007. Following Open Water certification he began diving with PCH Scuba for fun, and then took on more training through its Platinum master scuba diver training program. It was evident early on that it was just a matter of time before he started scaling the professional ladder. Breathing underwater, just being neutrally buoyant and getting up close and personal with nature in a way that can never be experienced on land is so amazing, Stu wants to help others learn how to do it and expand the number of ocean ambassadors out there. There's so much cool stuff to see, but if we're not careful it won't be around long.

Stu enjoys diving year-round in Southern California - the kelp forests are spectacular. The slightly colder temperatures in the winter seem tepid to this native Brit, but that’s not to say he doesn’t also enjoy diving in the tropics, particularly on the annual PCH international trip.

Mckenna PoolI remember it like it was yesterday, I was 12 years old and had bugged my dad enough that he finally let me try out this thing he’d been talking about since I could understand English… SCUBA diving. I bounced off the bottom and saw nothing but sand in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, but I instantly fell in love and never looked back; this was an entirely different world and as close to outer space as I could feel. After a few Discover dives I finally got certified in 2005 and became an instructor in 2008 and I have been teaching almost non-stop for over 3 years.

I have done over 1,600 dives in many places, both cold and warm water, throughout the world: Southern California, Hawaii, Florida, Boston, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Thailand and Malaysia. I actually lived in Thailand on a small island called Koh Phi Phi Don for a year and a half and taught diving there; it was an unbelievable experience and I did some of the world’s best dive sites. When I moved back to the U.S., I joined the PCH family and fell in love with diving in a whole different way; I found an organization that is filled with a group of people just as passionate about diving as I am and have a great time doing it. Diving is an obsession… beware… once you start, it’ll be all you can think about: blowing bubbles.

Mike Van FleetMy first experience in the underwater world was while on Vacation in Hawaii in 2005. I participated in a discover Scuba experience and was hooked. Although it did take me a little over a year after returning from Hawaii, I finally took the next step and got certified; and I loved it just as much off the California coast as I did in Hawaii. That’s when I decided that I wanted to learn as much as I could about the sport, so I began taking as many specialty courses as I could. Now I am very proud to be able to share what I have learned and give other people the opportunity to enjoy the underwater world as much as I do. Some of my favorite dive locations would definitely be around the Northern Channel Islands. Some of my best dives were at Anacapa, Santa Cruz, and who can forget Farnsworth Banks off the back side of Catalina.

Kelly Compton

Kelly was raised in the PCH Scuba family since her first Open Water dive in 2009. She overcame her fear of water with the help of the amazing PCH Scuba team, and hasn’t stopped diving since. She decided to become a professional diver after discovering what an incredible world scuba opens up to you, and now wants to share her passion for it with others.

She’s dove in great sites like Catalina and the Great Barrier Reef, but her favorite dives are those spent just hanging out in the shallows checking out the ocean life and goofing around with her best dive buddies.

Carlos LinaresI first dived in 2002 off the coves of Laguna Beach, CA. There's not much I'd rather do than strapping on a tank; it's the next best thing to being an astronaut!

My car is always sandy and my gear is rarely dry. After making a temporary move to the Midwest and diving silty, dead rock quarries and rusty, sunken cars, I hurried back home to the glorious Pacific. There is nowhere else in the world where you can fly to chase sunlight through a kelp forest, see dozens of animals, burrow your way into narrow cave passageways and explore an enormous wreck all in the same weekend. Scuba diving can be whatever you want it to be - a leisurely stroll, high octane adventure, or a relaxing night looking up at the stars as the ocean cradles you gently.

Let us show you a world you never knew existed and you'll understand first hand why it's so important to keep it safe. There's a whole lot of planet you haven't seen yet... you want in?

Kim MahlKim began diving in 2011 with PCH Scuba. Scuba had previously been a lifelong dream to one day accomplish.

After her first breath in the pool she realized how incredibly life changing ccuba could be and quickly signed up for the Master Scuba Diver Program.

In the last year, she's traveled to Malaysia, Mexico, Turks and Caicos and all around Southern California for diving. Scuba has made her lifelong friends and and given her the opportunity to explore.

Kim is currently a PADI Specialty Instructor with specialties in deep diving, underwater navigation, peak buoyancy, enriched air (Nitrox), wreck and night diving.

Come and DIVE!

Casey MahlAfter realizing that he would probably never evolve Kevin Costner’s gills in a timely fashion, Casey joined the ranks of PCH Scuba to discover the wonders of the water world. Immediately impacted by the vast beauty and serenity this incredible environment had to offer, it did not take long to decide that he wanted to share the experience with as many people as possible and promptly became certified as an Open Water Scuba Instructor with the incredible PCH dive staff, along with his lovely wife, Kim.

Having spent time diving in Mexico, Malaysia and all around Southern California, Casey is always ready to jump into the Casino Point dive park with a fresh group of students and show them the world that profoundly changed his life.
